Travel Tips

What To Pack

  • Sun hat, beach towel and flip-flops
  • Sunscreen and insect repellent
  • Daypack
  • Swimsuit and lightweight, quick-dry clothes
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste and biodegradable toiletries
  • Compact umbrella or light rain poncho (May to December)
  • A sweater or light layer for San José
  • Hiking shoes
  • Water shoes for getting on and off boats

Optional

Local flights allow 25 lb (about 11 kg) of luggage, and each extra pound costs $1. This is the airline’s rule, so please check it when you book your flight. The last stretch is on foot, so a backpack is easier than a suitcase, but our porters are there to help, and a suitcase is fine if that’s what you have.
